Why eat melon in the summer
A melon cure for 2-3 weeks is a good reason to feel more energized after everyday stress. And we consume not only the red part, but also the white peel because it has citrulline that improves blood circulation, but also the immune system. And also in the white shell there is silicon, an indispensable element for the bone system.
Red melon is also the only proven ally in fighting cellulite,along with movement and fitness. There are plenty of reasons, apart from taste, to consume the melon all season.
A study published in the American Journal of Nutrition shows that in patients who have colon tumors, the level of lycopene in the blood is significantly low. Another study published in the same prestigious journal shows that men with high lycopene consumption reduce their risk of prostate cancer bymore than 85%.
The active substance intervenes in the protection against breast cancer,endometrial cancer, but also lung cancer. We also find lycopene in tomatoes, and the antioxidant is not lost if we boil tomatoes, on the contrary it activates. It is a good reason to consume tomato juice and preserved tomatoes all year round.
The extremely large amount of lycopene is found in the season and in watermelon. Two-three-week straps are very beneficial, which means a daily serving. Watermelon should be consumed shortly after cutting it, because within a few hours it oxidizes and loses its nutritional qualities.
For this reason, when we buy it, we don’t ask for it to be cut (to check if it’s ripe) because that cut part is a reason to get oxygen inside, so the fruit will deteriorate quickly. It is also good not to keep it in the refrigerator wrapped in plastic wrap, because it loses its exceptional qualities in a short time.
Watermelon sorbet
Ingredients: 4 large slices of melon, one teaspoon of fresh leveflowers, one teaspoon of honey, 2 teaspoons lemon juice, one teaspoon of vodka.
Preparation mode: in a pan, we put on fire the lavender flowers ,but also a slice of melon. Stir for 10 minutes until the tastes are intertwined. Leave to cool, then mix with honey and lemon juice. All the while a whole melon is kept cold.
Then we cut the pulp into very small cubes. We’re adding vodka. And then we pour the melon and levet juice. The presence of alcohol is not necessary if we want to prepare for children this dessert. Alcohol causes the taste to become more intense, in fact amplifies the aroma of lavender flowers.
Watermelon on pineapple bed
Ingredients: 500 g seedless melon, cut into small cubes, 2 cups orange juice, 1 cup grapefruit juice, 1/2 cup lemon, 1 pineapple (or 2 oranges)cut into cubes, 2 teaspoons honey, fresh mint.
Preparation mode: honey at room temperature is mixed with lemon juice. Then we combine orange, grapefruit and lemon juice with honey. We’ll put everything in the fridge. During this time we cut the melon into large pieces. Add them over orange slices and place with a few fresh mint leaves, crushed in advance.
Put the mixture in large ice cream cups alongside two ice cubes. Above, we pour the citrus juice. We have a perfect combination of citrus vitamins, seasonal melon and natural honey.
Watermelon with cereals
Ingredients: 2 cups whole grains of oats, one tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of cinnamon, one cup of hazelnuts,6 slices of melon.
Preparation mode: put the hazelnuts in the mixer and finely chop them. Finally we add the cereal flakes, honey and cinnamon. Remove the mixture to a plate and refrigerate. Cut pieces of melon into a round shape (with a spoon for ice cream) or cubic. Put them in large glasses of juice and add the oat mixture on top. These recipes are ideal for dessert and breakfast,but also to cool off during the very hot summer period. Have a good time!
